Discussing the advantages of homesteading and what keeps us going day after day. Read the full article here: http://www.thedoityourselfworld.com/articles/article.php?id=11580

Homesteaders are a unique sort of people. Homesteading requires a lot of hard work and dedication. It takes long hours generally from sunrise to sunset and often later to run a homestead full time. But it is rewarding and worth every bit of it.

Homesteaders are often a free spirited but tough lot. We need the people in the general workforce to keep society going but homesteaders also contribute their share to society. We all have to work together to keep things going well.

Most people work a 9 to 5 job and pay their bills normally. It is the normal thing to do. There is nothing at all wrong with this. This is the norm.

But homesteaders do not like to be confined to performing the same tasks day after day and working for other people.

Homesteaders often never know what tomorrow will bring. There is always something needing repair or upgrading on the homestead. Animals can break loose or predators can attack. It is exciting and full of never ending variety.

Most homesteaders live a healthier life by the very nature of their work. Homesteaders are out in the fresh air all day, every day. We exercise all the different muscles every day whereas others have to join a fitness center to get their exercise.

Most homesteaders eat healthier as well due to the fact that they provide their own food. And it is fresher than from the store because it does not need to travel long distances to get to their table.

Hunting, fishing, foraging and gardening not only provide for a healthier diet but also saves money.

Many homesteaders are self sufficient to some extent. This means not only providing their own food but also often their own power and income.

Many homesteads are powered by the sun or wind or a combination of the two in order to save even more money.

We all have to work to pay the man. We have to pay our taxes and our bills or we will go to jail and lose our homesteads. Therefore even homesteaders have to work these days.

Most sell products or produce from their own land or labors to pay the bills and the taxes.

Although homesteaders often work longer hours and have harsh conditions, it is very rewarding.

At the end of the day a homesteader can sit back and look over his/her labors and feel good that they worked for the better of the family.
