While visiting the homestead Sam and I went out to a cabin in the woods where he demonstrated hammock camping in various weather types.
We spent the night out in the woods in a log cabin. It got quite cold that night, actually below freezing. We were both unprepared due to the weather reports not warning of an impending freeze and the normal average of 40s and 50s at night.
We were both a bit uncomfortable but we survived. And that is what survival is all about.
Sam stayed in an ultralight hammock during the night. This kept the cabin floor free to give us more room.
The next morning he gave us a demonstration on how to use a hammock.
He talked about cold weather camping in a hammock as well. Most people are not aware of the fact that camping in a hammock during cold weather requires a bit more preparation and supplies.
You need something under your hammock to prevent the cold from seeping in at night. Otherwise you will freeze.
Thank you Sam for a fine demonstration.
