I put a new Weaver rail on my Savage Axis .308 in order to fit a new Bushnell Dusk & Dawn rifle scope.
The Savage Axis series of rifles are known to be shipped with lower quality scopes. I got mine brand new at a discount because it did not have a scope at all.
Later I purchased a second hand scope which I will never do again. It would not keep its zero. I had to zero it in every day during the hunt last year.
This year I got a Busnell Dusk & Dawn 3-9 x 40 scope online for only $66 on Amazon. You can find it here:

But unfortunately it did not fit my rifle scope mounts. The Bushnell scope was too long for the stock Savage scope mounts.
So I drove to town to get a brand new Weaver rail from a local sporting good store. You can get one here:

I took the rifle with me to make sure it was the right fit. It was perfect so I brought the rifle and Weaver rail home to mount it.
I got it on with no problem at all and soon I had my new Bushnell Dusk & Dawn scope on my Savage Axis .308
Just in time for the hunting season.
