Description:
Preparing our off grid homestead for winter and clearing the path for a log loading ramp on the chainsaw lumber mill.

Winter is here but the snow is not yet but my time is ticking fast. I have to get the homestead ready for the blanket of snow that will soon cover the land.

I cleaned up the property first of all and put away things that will not be needed for winter. I put away the sheets that we used to cover the garden during frosty summer nights. Yes we have a lot of frost at night even with 90 degree plus days.

I put away the planters and decorative things as well. And did a general cleanup of the property. The wind often blows things around on us and makes a mess of things. I want everything cleared up before its under snow.

I put away all the summer gas powered equipment and brought out an old Ariens snow blower I brought back from NY. This I had bought for scrap metal price in NY and never tried it out before now. I sprayed some carburetor cleaner into it and it ran. I was very surprised at this. I am not sure what exactly is wrong with the machine though. The blades do rotate freely when the engine is not engaged. I dont know if this is normal or not. I will have to look it up online.

I kept out the riding garden tractor as well. This will be helpful around the property all year. I have to get the engine on this running and get the tires to hold air properly.

Next I cleaned up around the lumber mill to prepare for construction of a log loading ramp. I need a way to load heavy logs onto the ramp without the need for heavy equipment or other special tools.

And old sawyer showed me how to roll logs up a ramp by hand using a cant hook.

Next will be the construction of the log loading ramp for my stationary chainsaw lumber mill so stay tuned....
