Description:
We are now heavily using solar power at the off grid homestead and a surprise frost kills some of our plants.

In the morning we found that the ground was covered in frost. This was not expected because the weather for the night was supposed to be in the mid to low 50s out. We do know that it can be 10 degrees colder here on average at night then in town. And sometimes, rarely, it can be 15 degrees colder here than in town. But that would still put us in the safe zone. So frost on the ground was a surprise.

Even in town they said it froze as well even though the weather app was saying it was 43 degrees in town at the time. That is strange.

It did kill off some of our garden vegetables and killed the buds on the beans that were finally starting to grow after the long killing heat of summer. It was in the mid 90s all summer here so the plants were not doing well with the sandy soil and lack of rain all summer.

Now that I have rewired the entire solar power system, we have more power than ever. I can run cryptocurrency mining rigs for free on the power of the sun. When the sun is shining fully on the solar panels I can run the mining rig on solar power. I shut it down about 5 or 6 pm so that the solar panels can top the batteries back off before it gets dark out.

In this way I can mine altcoins for free using solar power.

I had removed the MPPT solar charge controller from the off grid electronics and wood shops to put them onto the off grid tiny house. So I wired in my PWM solar charge controller in the electronics lab to keep the batteries charged up. Within a short time the batteries were topped off again.

The battery bank in the electronics shop powers both that building and the off grid wood shop. The wood shop is fully off the grid and running on solar power.
