We could never grow root vegetables so far on our homestead. So this year I am using nature to help us grow like never before.I have to make an exception for potatoes which we have grown because they are planted deeper in the soil. Although we have often lost these to early fall freezes before the harvest.During previous years we could never grow root vegetables because our soil dries out within hours once the sun hits it. It is sandy soil and dries out very fast. Seeds never have a chance to germinate and seedlings die off in a day or two.We built a 4ft x 8ft grow bed that is 12 inches deep. Below that we worked up the soil some in case vegetables want to grow even deeper.I waited for a thunderstorm to soak the soil and then planted my seeds. Next I covered the soil so the seedlings will stay moist until they germinate and grow up above the soil.Time will tell but I think we will have success this year. Thanks for watching. Description:

We could never grow root vegetables so far on our homestead. So this year I am using nature to help us grow like never before.

I have to make an exception for potatoes which we have grown because they are planted deeper in the soil. Although we have often lost these to early fall freezes before the harvest.

During previous years we could never grow root vegetables because our soil dries out within hours once the sun hits it. It is sandy soil and dries out very fast. Seeds never have a chance to germinate and seedlings die off in a day or two.

We built a 4ft x 8ft grow bed that is 12 inches deep. Below that we worked up the soil some in case vegetables want to grow even deeper.

I waited for a thunderstorm to soak the soil and then planted my seeds. Next I covered the soil so the seedlings will stay moist until they germinate and grow up above the soil.

Time will tell but I think we will have success this year.
