I am checking out a theory that an ancient glacier melt river has more gold than in the wider flat lands further away from the mouth of the river.
Long ago glaciers covered Michigan and deposited gold along with sand and other rocks and minerals.
In my yard I find a flake of gold per shovel of sand. 5 miles away I find a bit higher concentration. My theory is that I am on a plain further from the mouth of an ancient river.
I took a small quart sized sample of soil at a lake near the mouth of the river and ran it through my sluice box.
I was not disappointed to find about 6 flakes of gold and a lot of fine flour gold. It was super fine and I could not get it on camera. But it did prove my theory. I hope to one day get permission to pan along the river bed.
