I am working on the off grid tiny house fire wood pile again to make sure we have enough to get through the winter.
I had split a nice sized pile of fire wood the other day on our new log splitter. Today I hauled it all over to the fire wood pile and stacked it up. We have been burning for three weeks now and the pile was getting lower. This made me nervous.
It took 11 wheelbarrow loads to move all the fire wood I split in only half an hour on the log splitter. This topped off the fire wood pile out front nicely. Each wheel barrow holds about two days of heating for our off grid tiny home so this gives us about 22 days of burning. That just about what we burnt so far this year already.
Today I went out for about 15 minutes and split some more fire wood on the log splitter. This is a very fast and efficient machine. It is powerful too.
Later Melanie came out to help me split the rest of the fire wood pile. She handed me the logs while I split them on the machine. This went very fast and in 15 minutes we had the entire pile of logs split.
I am really loving this log splitter. It is making my job here on the homestead so much easier and faster.
I figure that we spend about $4 - 6 per month of burning fire wood in gas now. That is so much cheaper than buying fuel to heat a home.
